From Norfolk International Airport

Currituck Heritage Park is about a 2 to 2 1/2 hour drive south. Take Norview Avenue to Interstate 64 toward Virginia Beach. Stay in left lanes of 64 until you are through the Virginia Beach traffic.

From I-64 E in VA

Follow signs for the Outer Banks and Nags Head, exit 291B. This is the first exit past the Battlefield Boulevard exit. As soon as you exit, quickly shift to the leftmost lane to get on Route 168.

Follow 168 to the Outer Banks (It eventually becomes 158). As of May 2001 it is 4 lanes all the way. However, you will have to pay a $2 toll in Virginia for the Chesapeake Turnpike.

After crossing the Wright Memorial Bridge

(over Currituck Sound) proceed a mile or so, until you come to the fifth red light. Turn left onto Rt. 12 N toward the northern beaches or Southern Shores, Duck, Corolla.

WARNING - when you cross the bridge, its time to shift to "Outer Banks" time, slow down and adhere to the posted speed limits - they are enforced!

Currituck Heritage Park is located about 20 miles north of the light. You will go through the "downtown" Duck area before entering Currituck County. Continue north to historic Corolla. The entrance to Currituck Heritage Park is on your left just before the Currituck Beach Lighthouse. The Whalehead Club sits at the water’s edge.

Our number at the Whalehead Club is 252-453-9040. Someone is at the welcome center from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. every day to greet you and provide information about Currituck Heritage Park.
